Vinyl Walls and such

It's been a while since I posted!

Tonight I stapled clear vinyl to the wall (purchased at JoAnn's). This is to make the walls easier to clean. I have 2 small sections to do. I had already done the opposite wall.

I have to clear up the last section and put their refrigerator on a different stand. Right now it sits on a cheap, wheeled tv stand and I want to put it on a metal rolling drawer set up.

I'm totally bummed because I have to send their medical grade filter (better than hepa) to the manufacturer to get a new cord. I'm going to check ebay out because I saw mine for way cheaper than I paid for it to have a backup.

Tomorrow morning I'll clean the trays on the 4 4-levels. Hopefully sometime this or next weekend I can take pictures of my new cage designs. Too much homework right now.

Libby Takes up Residence at Vermin Village

Libby was taken to the Bonnie L. Hayes Animal Shelter by a family that no longer wanted her. They weren't even nice enough to wait until the Oregon Humane Society had an opening. :( BLH does not keep exotics, except for maybe ferrets. (This policy was set in January 2008.) So exotics are euthanized by the close of business. Luckily, Libby had someone looking out for her because someone at BLH called a friend of a friend and said friend than emailed me. So here we are, chilling at the laptop watching CSI. She's bruxxing madly.

She's a black and white hooded rattie. She appears to have a mite issue, so she'll be treated with Revolution. But she has the SOFTEST fur I've ever felt on a rat. Bunny fur!

She sure does like to drink a lot of water! She is also over 2 years old. The people couldn't even commit to keeping her for life. :/

Anyway, she has some sneezing so she'll start antibiotics. Her life has recently been quite chaotic so a little stress is understandable. She appears to have a small tumor as well. Total bummer that.

She is also an AWESOME lap rat. She just totally flops out!

Nemo Laid to Rest

Nemo, a gregarious little boy, was put to sleep this evening. He came to vermin village with his buddy Zeb. They are both about 2 and a half years old! Nemo loved treats and always greeted visitors at the cage door. He had slowed down quite a bit this past month and he was to the point this week he was unable to really get around at all. :( After monitoring him, it was decided he would be better playing at the bridge and able to eat as many treats as he wanted without losing his boyish figure.

Rest in peace little one.

Starsky

Starsky was put to sleep this evening. She was a real sweet little girl that came to vermin village from a family in Camas, Washington. Sadly, her younger cage mate, Dottie, passed last year. Starsky was moved into the big girl's cage. She seemed to fit well with them. A few months ago I noticed she started to go blind. But for a rattie, that isn't too much of a handicap. This past week she appeared to have suffered a stroke and could not sit up without falling over. I tried a few days to see if she could get around. She had too much trouble.

Rest in peace little one.

Show and Our Ratties

Due to throwing too much in on Saturday, we missed the spring show RATS! :( We got there in time for dinner. ::sigh:: But we did get our Harlan, thanks 3GR! and we were able to help Little Mischief Rescue out by donating 3 3-levels of my prototype cages and 1 of the divided cages I modified for ratties. We also hauled 12 bags of food to another club member's parents' house for storage for LMR as well.

This is the last time I rent a van to go to the show for some time. I'll just have to see about carpooling instead because storage is at a premium in our house and it is just too much to haul all that food about. That is too bad because the food itself is a good price, it is everything else that pushes it up. That in conjunction with the time and energy expended to get the food here makes it cheaper to just go ahead and order it online.
