Harold Leaves to Reunite With Brothers

At the age of 31 months, Harold has been reunited with his brothers, Chupachup, Billy and Rutherford.  Harold, like his brothers, was a sweet gentle giant.  Always greeting you at the cage door, these past few weeks he lost the use of his back legs.  He still could scoot around until I noticed Sunday he had slowed down quite a bit.  He passed away while I was at work on Monday.

He has been prepared for private cremation at OHS.

Rest in peace little giant.

Rutherford Helped to the Bridge

Rutherford was helped to the bridge today. He was always an engaging gentle giant. I adopted him and 3 boys from a member of our rat forum. He was preceded in death by Chupachup and Billy and is survived by Harold.

His favorite thing to do was chill in a hammock or be pet under his chin. He'd been looking rather frail the last 3 days and this morning when I went in he was kind of quiet. When I went back in later today he was in distress and obviously ready to go.

He was 34 months old.

He's been prepared for private cremation at the Oregon Humane Society.

Sadly, Billy had a stroke on 11/20/2009. He was alert and aware that day after his stroke. I moved him to a cage downstairs so I could keep an eye on him. On 11/21/2009, I was awakened by crying coming from his cage and he appeared to be having a second stroke. I picked him up to hold him and he stiffened and died. I'm glad I woke up so hopefully he knew he was not alone. He is survived by his cagemates Chupachup, Harold, and Rutherford. He was 20 months old.

Chupachup, Harold, Rutherford, and Billy Arrive

Chupachup and Harold are both big agouti boys and Rutherford is black and white, and Billy is tan/blonde and white. They are all sweet boys! Chupachup and Harold are 6 months old and Rutherford and Billy are 9 months old. They were adopted from a rat board member when her family developed allergies. I've not integrated them into any other group of rats because they get along so well together.
